Teaching internship is a vital component of the B.Ed. programme, as it provides prospective teachers with valuable classroom exposure and helps bridge the gap between theory and practice. My teaching internship at Aluva Higher Secondary School, Marampally, was a memorable, challenging, and enriching phase of my professional development as a Physical Science teacher.
During the internship period, I taught Physical Science to high school students, with a major focus on Chemistry for Class VIII. At the initial stage, I felt nervous about classroom management and student engagement. However, through continuous practice, careful observation, and the guidance and support of my mentor teachers, I gradually gained confidence.
The students were friendly, cooperative, and enthusiastic, which created a positive and supportive learning environment. Their active participation, curiosity, and eagerness to learn made the teaching–learning process both enjoyable and meaningful, motivating me to perform my role more effectively.

As part of my practical work, I conducted Value Education classes focusing on important values such as time management and respect for all religions. These sessions helped students develop moral values, social awareness, and a sense of responsibility in their daily lives. I also carried out a case study on a student with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), which enabled me to understand learning and behavioral challenges and highlighted the importance of providing individualized support to meet diverse learning needs.
In addition, I undertook an action research study titled *“A Study on the lack of ability to apply physics concepts in Problem-Solving among the Students of 8th Standard at NIVHSS, Marampally.”* This research enhanced my understanding of students’ difficulties in applying theoretical knowledge to practical problems and helped me adopt effective teaching strategies to improve their problem-solving skills.
In addition to academic teaching, I actively took part in both curricular and co-curricular activities. I handled Physical Education, Yoga Education, and Health Education classes, highlighting the importance of physical fitness and mental well-being. I also conducted sessions on Indian art forms and cultural heritage, where I introduced students to classical dance forms such as Kathakali and Bharatanatyam, thereby fostering cultural awareness and appreciation among the students
.
The teachers and non-teaching staff of the school were highly supportive and approachable. The mentor teachers provided constructive feedback and guided me in improving teaching methods, classroom managemer and evaluation techniques. The cooperative attitude of the school staffs helped me feel comfortable and confident, enabling me to adapt smoothly to the school environment. Preparing lesson plans, teaching aids, worksheets, and ICT-based materials helped me understand the importance of proper planning for effective teaching. I prepared and implemented nearly 50 lesson plans and also handled two Languages Across the Curriculum (LAC) classes, using various teaching strategies such as discussion, demonstration, activity based learning, and ICT tools.
To promote national integration and patriotism, l organized a. competition related to Independence Day, which encouraged students to learn about the nation's history and values. As part of subject club activities, I conducted a quiz competition on Science and Inventions and arranged a documentary screening on the Moon and its phases in connection with Moon Day.
I used a self-assessment tool to encourage students to evaluate their own learning performance. For this I prepared and administered rubrics including two Chemistry chapters, ensuring fair and systematic evaluation. As part of peer evaluation, I evaluated one English class and one Chemistry class conducted by my peers, which enhanced my critical observation and reflective teaching skill.
Furthermore, I conducted an achievement test and a diagnostic test for Class IX students and provided remedial measures based on the results. This experience helped me understand the importance of assessment in identifying(Tearning gaps and improving student performance.
Overall, my teaching internship at N.I.V.H S.S Marampally was a very useful and satisfying journey. The school’s friendly setting played a major part in making my internship a success. Through this experience, I was able to find out what I do well and what I need to change as a teacher. I noticed that I am good at knowing my science topics, being patient, talking well with others, and being excited about teaching Physical Science. I also saw that I need to improve in some areas, especially in handling a loud classroom and managing my time better. This self-discovery helped me look back at my lessons and try to improve every day.
The internship really helped me grow as a person and a worker, improved my teaching skills, and made me ready to face new classroom tasks with more courage. It has truly made me feel more certain about being a caring, thoughtful, and good Physical Science teacher. By working closely with students and other staff, I learned about the difficult parts and the great rewards of this career. Putting my reflection notes on a site like Blogger is a great way for student-teachers to save what they have learned, talk about their journey with others, and get useful feedback on their progress.
Posting these reflections online also acts as a digital record of how much I have improved over time. It helps me get better at using technology and creates a professional record that can help me find a job in the future. This entire process has bridged the gap between what I learned in my B.Ed. books and what actually happens in a real school. I am now more confident in my ability to plan lessons, use teaching aids, and guide my students toward success. This experience has laid a strong foundation for my future as a dedicated and effective educator. development.k
Through this experience, I was able to identify my strengths and weaknesses as a teacher. I recognized strengths such as subject competency, patience, effective communication, and enthusiasm for teaching Physical Science. At the same time, I became aware of areas that need improvement, particularly classroom management and time management.
This self-awareness helped me reflect on my teaching practices and work towards continuous improvement. The internship contributed significantly to my personal and professional growth, strengthened my teaching competencies, and prepared me to face future classroom challenges with confidence. It has reinforced my commitment to becoming a dedicated, reflective, and effective Physical Science teacher.
